Olive Oil
Extra virgin olive oil is a natural juice. It is harvested from trees that live for hundreds of years. Some trees are known to be over a thousand years old. The olive variety determines the taste of the oil, like grapes and wine. So you get fruity or nutty or peppery etc. The varieties are such that, like wines, you may have a number of favourites. Choose which one suits your mood or occasion.
There are six main olives grown in Andalucia, Southern Spain, for oil. They are as follows, plus characteristics;
HOJIBLANCA -
ARBEQUINA -
PICUAL -
PICUDO -
CORNICABRA -
Olive oil is a natural fruit juice if it is virgin or extra virgin. The only process it has undergone is picking, separating , washing, pressing and filtering. No additions!
Below we have eight unique olive oils from all over Andalucia which we have personally
tasted and chosen from among many others. One is organic -
NUÑEZ DE PRADO -
ESTEPA – fruity, green appley, smooth.
CASLUN – Extra Virgin. Olivey, smooth.
ARBEQUINA = fruity, pears,smooth
BAENA = unfiltered, fruity, grapes,slightly peppery
JAEN = nutty, almondy , slightly bitter
Please note that depending on the time of the season, harvest etc. some of these oils may be temporarily out of stock at times. Drizzle the oils on hot toast in the morning with a pinch of salt. Brings out the flavour of the oil. We put chopped fresh garlic and tomato on , superb! Keeps one healthy too."
